The correct place to set this is in the ZDE.lax file.
Modify lax.nl.java.option.additional with -Dawt.toolkit=sun.awt.motif.MToolkit

This also will fix problems with dialog windows appearing on the middle of two screens in a dualscreen setup.

(BTW: when doing this I experienced random crashes of ZDE...so be careful)

Thanks for the, but I've been using this for some months and so far it didn't crash a single time. Can't remember about the dialog windows really.
